Ministry of Economy and IMF Discuss Plans for Privatization of Subjects of Strategic Importance

Serbia is recording a success in attracting investments and creating a favorable business environment, pointed out the delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which is on a visit to Serbia until October 31.

The held a meeting with the minister of economy, Slobodan Cvetkovic, and the delegation was headed by Donal McGettigan, the head of the mission.

They talked about the upcoming activities which will enable an efficient implementation of the Law on Managing Companies Owned by the Republic of Serbia, as well as the further plans for the privatization of subjects of strategic importance, it is said on the website of the ministry.

Cvetkovic presented the results of the work of the economy sector and the plans for the coming period.

– Through the initiated programs and activities, individually and in cooperation with the Development Fund and the Development Agency of Serbia, we additionally upgrade the investment environment and the overall economic environment. We support the development of small and medium enterprises, which has good effects on the Serbian economy, so that it would adapt to the changes in the international business trends. In all these fields, Serbia has recorded a progress – Cvetkovic said and estimated that investment and infrastructure projects, for which Serbia was recognized as a good and reliable partner, were of great importance.


Minister Cvetkovic emphasized that “the Government of the Republic of Serbia is dedicated to a reform of the business entities which are owned by Serbia and an increase of the benefits of that state ownership for the state and the citizens.”

– The Law on Managing Companies Owned by the Republic of Serbia regulates the management of these companies for the first time in a uniform way. The aim is to strengthen them, to improve corporate management, with the intention to achieve better business results – Cvetkovic said.
