In Sjenica, agreements were signed with companies-beneficiaries of the Fund for the Co-Financing of Energy Efficiency Programs within the “Solar Energy for SMEs” project. Thanks to the fund, six companies from Sjenica from the food industry will install solar panels in the next two months.

The Municipality of Sjenica, the Regional Development Agency of Sandzak SEDA and the USAID, through the Big Small Businesses project, support SMEs from this region by co-financing the activities through the Fund. The aim is to improve the processes and reduce the companies’ costs by securing better conditions for the use of renewable energy sources, which is especially important when companies come from areas in Serbia which don’t have a stable electricity supply, such as the Sjenica area.

– It is my pleasure to be able to witness the realization of this project, which is tailor-made for Sjenica and very important for us as a local self-government. I believe that it will strengthen our processors in the field that we are known for – the production of milk and meat, which is our developmental resource. These are long-term investments in the strengthening of the capacities, because the life cycle of solar power plants is around 30 years. We believe that this will also bring security when it comes to the buyout and the strengthening of the mutual connections between the processors and the producers and that this investment brings certainty to agricultural production. We will try to have as many such projects as possible in the future, because that is the essence of what the municipality should be doing anyway – stated the president of the municipality of Sjenica, Munib Mujagic.

One of the companies to soon install solar panels is Mlekara Fass, a family business from the Sjenica area. They buy out milk from 200 small producers in the area and have been supplying the Sjenica and Novi Pazar areas with milk and yoghurt for over 20 years. Thanks to the panels, they expect to save around 50% on electrical energy, which will considerably reduce the production costs for them.
