The ministry of finance of Serbia, Sinisa Mali, has met with the ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to Serbia, Marc Huebsch. They talked about the biggest Luxembourgish investment in Serbia, a factory for the production of graphene nanotubes which are used in the manufacture of electric cars, ahead of its opening.

– This is a new page in the history of the relations of our countries, the first big investment from Luxembourg after Serbia’s firm positioning on the investment map of Europe, by breaking the record of EUR 4.5 billion in the foreign direct investment inflow. We welcome the decision of Luxembourg to invest here and we hope for new projects – Mali pointed out at the meeting at the Ministry of Finance.

Mali reminded that, at the meetings with the IMF and the World Bank Group in Washington D.C, completed not long before, the main topic was the public debt, since global debts reached 93% of the GDP and the debts of the euro area 88.1% of the GDP, and that, “with a public debt of 46.5%, Serbia is showing that it can manage its public finances responsible, with big capital investments.”

– We had good talks in America, we signed a new three-year arrangement with the IMF, which we need as support to the implementation of the further reforms, not for withdrawing additional funds – pointed out Mali.

Mali invited Luxembourg to present itself in Serbia at EXPO 2027, now that it too has become one of the investors in the country.

– The interest of Luxembourg is great news. Thanks for recognizing the interest for investing and our efforts to remain the regional leader when it comes to the level of investments – concluded Mali.

Ambassador Huebsch estimated that the investment would encourage Luxembourg to be even more active in the future and to define all the possibilities for a continuation of investments in Serbia.

– It is evident that Serbia is not merely waiting to become a member of the EU, but is working a lot on development until that happens – the ambassador concluded.
