Tender for contractor for Belgrade subway in 2020?

The construction of the first line of the Belgrade subway will begin in 2020, Mayor Sinisa Mali announced of Saturday, February 3, 2018. As Beoinfo reports, the starting terminus will be located in Makisko Polje.

– There will be two lines, one with 22, the other with 20 kilometers. The City of Belgrade has prepared special analyses and studies necessary for defining the said routes for the first time. This primarily pertains to the “smart plan”, the City of Belgrade Transport Master Plan, adopted last year.

According to him, a combination of a subway and BG Voz is being made for the first time, as Belgrade already features a light rail system. The existing lines of BG Viz, the mayor said, stretch from Batajnica to the Monument to Vuk Karadzic, and from the monument to Ovca, and the line to Resnik will be established in April.

– The fourth line will connect the Nikola Tesla Airport with Zemun and New Belgrade. We will start building this line very soon and these four lines will be combined with two new subway lines, which is very important, as a single subway line doesn't mean much. Instead, the value of the entire project is reflected in the possibility of combining means of transport and making stopovers. Two new subway lines fully fit into the existing BG Voz lines – Mali pointed out.

He added that the biggest density of car and public transport vehicle traffic was recorded at the Belgrade Fair and that the said part of the city would thereby be “covered by a subway line”.

– From Makisko Polje to the Fair, we will use the existing infrastructure, and the sections from the Belgrade Waterfront to downtown Belgrade and from the Pancevo Bridge to Mirijevo will be subway lines. This will cover the most loaded routes, along with three BG Voz lines and the second subway line, to be built from the Ustanicka Street towards Zemun and be linked to BG Voz. The first subway line should be completed in 2022 or 2023. Modern technologies do not entail construction from point A to point B, but allow us to approach the project from several sides simultaneously, making for a much quicker construction – the mayor emphasized.

The smart plan for the construction of the subway was prepared by London's WSP, which also took part in the construction of the New York subway system, among other things, Beoinfo adds.

– The feasibility study should be prepared parallel to the main project in 2019, and the contractors should be selected and the construction initiated the next year.
